Engineers are truly resourceful.
Finished up some fettling on my Yamaha today then went over to a mate's
place to help him hang some pretty heavy iron gates he'd been given. Took the usual welder/grinder/scrap steel lengths etc over in the van and we made a start. All of the brackets and hinges on the gates were useless so I cut off the old ones and knocked up some which got the first gate hung off an existing post. No problems so far. As it was pretty windy today I had the MIG shield gas flow turned waaaaaay up. As a result, the bottle ran out. Arse. Back home for spare bottle. Also empty. Double arse. The only other guys I know who had a spare gas bottle are away on the Exeter Trial offroad event this weekend. Now where the hell am I going to get some gas...... Mmmmm.....looks at big CO2 fire extinguisher in the corner of the workshop.... That fitting thread on there looks familiar....mmm...I think I can adapt my argon regulator for that..... rummage, rummage Success! One slightly modifed regulator later, I have just finished the remaining welding with a fire extinguisher connected to my welder. It's good when a plan comes together..... JB |
