In article , says... "Cliff" wrote in message ... "Michigan weapons company Trijicon takes flak over soldiers' rifle scopes branded with Bible verses" A Michigan weapons company is under fire for branding thousands of rifle scopes used by U.S. soldiers and Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan with passages from the Bible. Along with the sight's stock number, there are coded Bible passages from the New Testament engraved on the sights. One reads JN8:12, an apparent reference to John 8:12, which says, "Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." It's also nice that the US military has been forcing bibles on folks in the Middle East. Produce a credible CITE. A cite for the sights, or the bible thing? The sights are easy. I checked my Trijicon ACOG and it has COR6:12 engaved on it. I've had it a long time, they have been doing it for awhile. They have been adding the bible verse numbers on the sights since day one of production. They also promote membership in the NRA and Shooting Sports as well as private gun ownership... TRIJICON'S VALUES • Honesty/Integrity We will be honest, dependable, trustworthy and fair towards each other, our employees, our customers and our suppliers. • Teamwork/Dedication We will work together as employees, customers and suppliers, valuing the unique contributions of each, to produce optimal aiming solutions. • Customers We desire long-term relationships with our customers. There are few atheists in a fox hole. Oh, Please. Not that one again. If you are talking about a battle between Christians and Muslims you're probably right. Both sides have nothing but believers so of course there are no atheists. But the truth is there have always been plenty of unbelievers and many of them have wound up in foxholes. So the only validity of your statement has to do with the proportion of atheists in society as a whole. The number given these days usually is around 10% atheists so you would expect about the same number to be in the military as well. So what is your claim supposed to prove? Hawke |

Let the Record show that Gunner Asch on or
about Wed, 20 Jan 2010 15:53:16 -0800 did write/type or cause to appear in rec.crafts.metalworking the following: We believe that America is great when its people are good. There are few atheists in a fox hole. There are far more atheists in those proverbial fox holes than the religious types want to believe. But a hell of a lot less than the atheists think. OTOH, while it may be true that there are no atheists in foxholes, that does not mean they're all good "doctrinally sound" believers. B-) But as Fr Nicolas said, on hearing that his fellow war vet had left the church of his youth "Fine. Before God can lead into the Truth, he must first lead you out of error." - pyotr filipivich We will drink no whiskey before its nine. It's eight fifty eight. Close enough! |

Gee, I wonder why Trijicon would be getting flak for putting bible references on the sights it sends to the Middle East? Could it be that the Muslims who see these bible quotes on the M16s of the invading forces might think the conflict is one where the Christians are back on another Crusade against their faith? They wouldn't pick up on the Christians vs Muslims thing would they? I mean they aren't the kind of people who would remember things from ancient times like the Crusades, right? Seeing the quotes from the bible wouldn't have the effect of making them more willing to fight the infidels now would it? You have to be pretty thick not to see why it's not a good idea to make this a religious war, and what Trijicon is doing is not helpful. Hawke |

The liberals in America forgot that they were attacked by the Muslims on 9-11-01, so why should we believe that Muslims can remember ancient times? I love my Trijicon sights, by the way. Nothing wrong with the sights just with the idiot bible thumpers who decided to put religious symbols on them. And if you think it was Muslims who attacked on 9/11 then you should know that the Muslims think it was the Christians who attacked them in Iraq. Enough of them know what war against Christians was to think the Christians are at it again. Believing it's another crusade helps the suicide bombers be willing to die in the cause. I think some of our men are dead and maimed due to that. You can attribute that directly to making it a Christian vs Muslim war. Then you put Christian symbols on our weapons and look what you get.
