As this appears to be a motor-generator set with the exhaust used
to heat household water there appears to be no reason why they
could not use a 3 phase generator other than most household in
the US are set up for single phase 120/220.

FIAT had done this with a small diesel some time ago. NYC power
companies screamed like a mashed cat when it looked like many of
the new larger buildings were going co generation to get the most
value from their heating oil. The power companies did the
traditional American thing -- they sued and got a law passed. The
real breakthrough appears to be the control circuits using the
internet.
