OT - guns at church - "open-carry service"
Wes wrote: "David R.Birch" wrote: The first time they called, I stood on my porch and asked to examine their bible. The title page listed a committee that had been responsible for the translation. I asked them which of the several hundred different Greek versions they had used. I asked them why, if their god had guided the translation to maintain the Truth, a committee was necessary. I explained that I am an agnostic pantheist, except on Leap Day, when I am a pantheistic agnostic. I was over at uncles once when they showed up on the step, my uncle, a deacon in his church, invited them in to meet his pastor that was visiting. For some reason, they didn't stay long. I don't understand it, it was 2v2 so it was a fair religious fight. I left, I knew how this one was going to end. Wes I asked them to explain away this passage, when they claim everything you need to know is in their pamplets: Deuteronomy 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. Or are they worried about the stained glass windows? d8-) -- Ed Huntress LOL..pretty funny Ed. TMT Guns and religion, we live a long way from anywhere, just the way we like it, * Many yrs ago Jehovas whitnesses called to convert us. * We asked them politely to go on their way. * They came again on a sunday at midday just as we were sitting down to a meal. * we said in no uncertain terms NOT to come again, if they did they would regret it. * Yes, they came once more a month or so later. * I called my wife in a very loud voice to get the 12 bore off the mantlepiece. I then gave them 20 secs to get up our private road, some 200yds long , before I blew their ffing heads off. They didnt hang about. A couple of months ago *2 elderly ladies called where I was working, and asked where the home owner was. * i said out working. * Can i pass a message? I said? * no they said they would call again. * I said are you JW'S yes they said, . * I replied that they better not come there again as this person is a difficult soul and they would regret it. * They then replied that they were threatened with a gun out this way many yrs ago. . I replied * That was me!!. They're devils for punishment. Ted * Dorset UK. Using that logic, I would assume that you then approve if JW would choose to use guns to persuade nonbelievers to convert? In my experience, showing respect for anyone's religious beliefs brings desired results. TMT The first time they called I was polite to them The second time they called I warned them if they came again it would be at their own risk. The third time they called despite the 2 previous warnings *the reaped the results of their actions. If the JW's had shown respect for my beliefs and not called again when i asked them not to, then i wouldnt have had to get threatening to get my point of view across. They brought it upon them selves. How often would you have put up with their calls? , indefinately? And Ted...I am not trying to give you a hard time...I understand the frustration when someone doesn't understand the meaning of "NO THANKS". Deadly force isn't an appropriate (or lawful) response to pesky persistence. There are other much more effective ploys for dealing with such pests. |

"New Bethel [...] church in Louisville, Kentucky [...] invited people to bring their unloaded guns to this first-ever event" yesterday. -- jiw Why unloaded? Doesn't that defeat the whole idea? A SuperSoaker would probably work quite well, at least for the pair who got hosed. A remote sprinkler system could be fun, too, especially in the colder months. -- Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass; it's about learning how to dance in the rain. --Anon |
