REVIEW: WTC 8" RotaryTabe.
I got a recurring job in where I needed a new rotary tabel, NOW. I
had no time to take chances on EBay for something that could have been left in the rain for a few years. Like many people I have had my disappointments with tools and equipment from a " certain place where they eat cats", etc. but felt the price was right enough and there was a local WT who may have forgotten that they asked me to leave a few years ago when I did a stand-up comedy routing in their showroom ridiculing some of their imported lathes... I went out a bought their 8" Table, stock number 1990-007, for $175.00, feeling that if it lasted a few months to get the job done, I could just throw it away afterward. I have been using it for a month now. And since I have never failed to dish out ridicule and abuse when a tool let me down, I shall be enough of a gentleman to tell the World that I was a prejudiced asshole. This rotary table is as good as any I have used, made by anyone anywhere at any of my employer's shops. The fit and finish is the equalt to any in any detail, from the flawless enamel finish to the little oil level window, to the 10" vernier. The machining was NOT done with a wood rasp, unlike some of those imports we have seen. The worm gear and wheel is VERY silky- smooth operating, the locks work fine, and the worm disengages and engages smoothly. This particular tabel was made by "Universal Group", and they identify it as the "TS Series". I am aware that WT and others often get things from diferent suppliers, so perhaps things could change in the future, but at present, if you have been needing an 8" rotary table, give this one a close look. A really close look. At this price, it's crazy to go without one. I was cutting disks out on my lathe, one at a time. THEN things took off and I had to cut hundreds of them. I can stack up the work and do ten+ at once now, and effortlessly cut them out in a few minutes with just a little easy hand motion. (Something I have been doing a LONG TIME, anyway, so it does not even feel like work!!!!!!) |

REVIEW: WTC 8" RotaryTabe.
There is always a certain degree of chance of getting a really crappy piece
of tooling from any of the importers of goods from the China and India regions. The better sellers will replace any item which isn't working correctly, and without cost to the customer. Quality control doesn't seem to exist in these manufacturing industries, which seem to be aimed at the home shop consumer or small businesses. Sometimes one may get a nearly perfect version of a piece of tooling, although it's not a good idea to expect near-perfection, since it may actually be as low as about 10% of everything made in those places. I believe you were referring to WT, Wholesale Tool, not WTC. The stock/model number would be 1990-0007, a 8" horizontal RT. http://www.wttool.com/product-exec/p...les_WT_Import_ The $175 price isn't a lot for an 8" RT (but it is horizontal only, not H/V), and the WT shipping would be $17.30 anywhere in the continental USA (based on purchase price, not weight/distance). WT seems to use the same image for various models of their RTs, so it's not easy to distinguish any features that may be different between models. The higher priced models of the same sizes are horizontal/vertical models. I don't know how a rotary table helps you increase your production rate of disks that were previously cut on a lathe, as you suggested. Are you stacking flat stock and cutting disks with an endmill? -- WB .......... metalworking projects www.kwagmire.com/metal_proj.html "Grunty Grogan" wrote in message ... REVIEW: WTC 8" RotaryTabe.
I think the reference was to Wholesale Tool, Roger.
http://www.wttool.com/product-exec/p...les_WT_Import_ WT is using the same image for all of their RT models, so it's not easy to see what any particular model actually looks like. The link that you provided looks like it may be the same manufacturer that makes the Phase II machine accessories, and one of their pictures shows the Phase II nameplate on it (the X-Y table). That particular RT image from your link appears to be identical in every detail, to a 6" Phase II RT that I have. The horizontal model I have was found on eBay several years ago, and after a few minor spot scrapes on the table gear teeth, it performs as smoothly as the one Grunty described, like silk. Additionally, it's a low profile design, which is maybe an inch shorter than the previous one I had (a crappy H/V version from India). -- WB .......... metalworking projects www.kwagmire.com/metal_proj.html "Roger Paskell" wrote in message ...
