Thanks Ed. I needed a good laugh.

I don't know how I'll vote this time.

It one of those vote against things (again), but I want to vote against
both of them.

That doesn't mean voting for an alternative candidate.

It's all so negative these days.

Maybe we ought to change the system so we can vote against rather than for.

It wouldbe more honest.

pretty low dollar stuff, like their 4.5" grinders. I think an
excellent tool for the money and pretty much disposable. I don't cry

quality than I feel I have any right to expect.

I bought a Pacific Hydrostar pressure washer about a year ago on sale.
I was looking for something small for car washing, etc. Turned out to
be a really nice little washer and had this brush attachment that you
screwed onto an adapter and plugged into the wand. The detergent
automatically turned on and the brush spun and it worked very well.

The adapter was kind of flimsy and broke after maybe 20 car washes. I
checked and they were still selling the pressure washer, not a
closeout thing. I found the manual and figured out the part I needed
and called to order a couple of them. Two, maybe three inches long,
black plastic, one piece. Couldn't be that expensive.

The parts desk told me the factory wasn't supplying replacement parts
for their machines. They sent me to customer service who told me the
same thing. I was offered a new pressure washer, the same thing if I
boxed up and sent the old one back with me paying the freight. That
just wasn't tempting enough, to get a new machine I can't get parts
for. Good money after bad.

I've bought parts from them in the past, and while slow to arrive, the
parts always showed up and were reasonably priced.

Sooner or later anything with moving parts needs something replaced,
I'm just glad I never bought one of their lathes or mills. And the
next small pressure washer will probably be a Karcher. I see parts
for those all over Google.

Integraty and the pension fund raids

========
About half of pension sponsors have frozen plans
By Jim Abrams
Associated Press Writer / July 22, 2008

WASHINGTON—About half of employers with defined-benefit pension
plans have frozen one or more of those plans, putting the
retirement incomes of millions at risk, according to a government
report made public Tuesday.
snip
"When companies freeze plans, older employees often experience
huge benefit losses and younger workers are left to save for
themselves," said Karen Friedman, policy director for the Pension
Rights Center.
snip
Employers often freeze pension plans as a step toward terminating
those plans and replacing them with defined-contribution plans
such as 401(k) plans. The GAO survey of 471 single-employer
defined-benefit plan sponsors found that nearly a third
ultimately expect to terminate their largest frozen plan.

I was surprised GM didn't go down with NWA.
They were burning through cash, they'd been shorted naked and then had
Kerkorian ( I think) plop down ten billion or so in fresh equity. There was
real fear at the time that hedge funds, as an industry, would eat it big
time and about a third or so went away. I believe I posted something about
the situation at the time.

Anyway.
The stock got off the floor but the reversal of fortunes wasn't based on the
companies fundamentals. Hell, they sold off their cash cow, and so did Ford,
to stay alive but then continued on along without addressing the underlying
problems.

Stupid.
Just plain stupid....

The stock got off the floor but the reversal of fortunes wasn't based on the
companies fundamentals. Hell, they sold off their cash cow, and so did Ford,
to stay alive but then continued on along without addressing the underlying
problems.

Stupid.
Just plain stupid....

We have been voting Against for a number of election cycles...

We hold our noses and vote against the worst candidate and for the 2nd
worst candidate.

This of course can be blamed on the 2 parties for offering up such
utter crap as candidates

Me thinks we need to go back to at least closed primaries. You
know, the old fashioned progressive idea that the members of the party
should chose the candidate, rather tan the entire electorate.
I mean, as much fun as it was voting for Dennis Kuccinich in the
primary, there was no way I'd vote for him in the General.

That's what I was thinking.

Actually I ended up ordering a new brush with adapters that pretty
much fit everything - including this machine. I don't know what they
used for plastic on the Harborfreight adapter, but I tried sleeving it
with some stainless tubing. I couldn't get any glue to bond to it, it
seemed like a polyethylene of some sort, so I tried pinning it and not
long later the plastic broke in a new place. At that point I was
disgusted and gave up.

At least the new brush should fit whatever I get to replace the
Harborfreight one when it finally dies.
