was the [US] '04 election fair or fixed?

Now that you mention it, I don't like to read political **** in groups where it doesn't belong. Thanks for asking. Snow isn't on the ground yet and it is the Presidental season. It is NOT the Presidential season. That's not for another fracking _year_, damnit! I prefer the 6-week campaign vs. the 4+ year campaigns. PS I'm willing to take a chance on Ron Paul. When Fred Thompson fails to win the primary due to Rep ignorance, I'll probably do the same. -- Real freedom lies in wildness, not in civilization. -- Charles Lindbergh |

He's an idiot, and I'm a Republican. g Ron Paul is one of those semi-libertarians who sounds good until you really listen to what he says. This is just one small example, but he was blasting Mitt Romney and telling him he ought to read the Constitution when Paul said, "Certainly the drafters of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, both replete with references to God, would be aghast at the federal government's hostility to religion." There is no reference to God, or the Creator, or anything like it in the Constitution. Maybe Paul ought to take his own advice. After eight years, it would be nice to have another president who actually read the Constitution. Paul isn't among them. -- Ed Huntress |

Ed,

After eight years, it would be nice to have another president who actually read the Constitution. Fair enough, but may I add to that "one who was not simply looking for loopholes?" Bill |

I always favor candidates with two middle names. Seriously, I'm just eliminating them at this point, not selecting. Rudi's out. We know too much about him in the NYC area, and he's not psychologically stable enough to be president. Mitt's out; he's a complete act, and nobody really knows what the hell he is. Edwards is out; could easily revert to some kind of unpleasant liberal. Other than that, it's way too early to tell, IMO. I want to see somebody show some mental toughness, and willingness to take some politically hard but sensible positions. I want to see how they behave when they have to take some heat on a principled stance. And I want them all to stop lying about how devoutly religious they are. What a bunch of phonies. We may have to wait until it's all over for that, if it ever comes. -- Ed Huntress |
