Default Happy Thanksgiving... yeah, I'll be in m'shop...

Awl--

Yeah, Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Well, almost everyone....

Makes me wonder, tho, what the Indians do for Thanksgiving.....
Talk about rubbin salt in a wound, jack....
Really, about as PC as a Confederate Flag Day, donchathink?

I suspect the Indians sit around whatever/wherever they sit around, slappin
the effing bejeezus out of each other, groaning, Man, what a mistake DAT
was.... what a mistake DAT was..... what a mistake DAT was......
Esp. the Massachussets Indians--goodgawd....

Has the makings of a great T-shirt, no?

So, what am *I* doin on this festive day?

Well, first, I'll be prayin-to-god that my ever-constructing pita neighbors
just STFU today, and give me a g-d break.....

Next, if the Wife actually talks to me today, we may drive up north apiece,
rahcheer in Westchester, where this restaurant/diner owner, out of his own
pocket, opens his doors, mostly to the destitute, and gives free *kick-ass*
sit-down-and-BE-SERVED Thanksgiving dinner, bruhs--none of this buffet
stuff, altho nuthin wrong w/ dat, either. He has all his kids/family doing
the serving.
Me and the wife were meandering about one Thanksgiving and just happened to
find this place, and wow, it was quite the experience.
We offered to pay, but they declined, so we tipped the kids one big-assed
tip, bro....
The irony, however, of Thanksgiving Day dinners for the destitute/homeless,
noble as they be, is so strong as to further short-circuit my already
short-circuited brain.

If l'wife don't talk to me today (the more likely scenario), I guess I'll
jes ditty-bop my way down to the local Yonkers Diner--or Bodega, depending
on how shop-greasy I'll be andon how multi-lingual I'll be feeling--and get
me a turkey sammidge.

Yeah, I'll be kickin ass in m'shop today, ackshooly perty thrilled, cuz I
just solved one persnickety pita curve-blending problem, and can now move on
ever-so incrementally in m'Folly.....

Sometimes, iffin I'm too beat to beat on any metal, I'll check out the
masses of homeless on the NYC subways. Altho I don't enjoy their suffering
per se, it sure does make my own miserable effing life appear a whole lot
more betterer.

Oh, btw, iffin you ain't bought *yer* house yet, and make "just" a normal
salary, consider going to Sears/HD/PC Richards, to check out any
refrigerator boxes being thrown out in the back. Might I suggest *waxed*
cardboard, as they are perty nicely water-proofed.

Bear in mind, tho, that upon acquisistion of sed Box, forget about parking
it in Manhattan (or anywhere within a 100 mi radius of effing Manhattan. Or
in any major city w/ an insurance company-built skyscraper--such
perfectly-phallused concrete/steel symbolism of their gigantic PV on/in us).
Mebbe yer HD will let you camp out right there in the back.... and sheeeiit,
the propane is *right there*!

Oh yeah, Manhattan: $24 from the indians--about $1/acre! But still about
15 times the per-acre price of Alaska.
So I guess the Indians dint do so bad on that one....

Yeah, Holidays--I guess their Holy-day-edness is in the eye of the blessed
beholder.
Fer example, Aug 6 and Aug 9 are un-official national holidays in China, but
days of mourning/gummint bashing over here--there's a good-sized Hiro/Nag
memorial rahcheer at Columbus Circle, right by Central Park--altho it seems
the History Channel is assiduously tryna change dat perception--go, Harry,
go!!.

My oh-pinion?
Sheeiit, ahm too goddamm hungry to have an opinion....

But I do know **** is a whole better for the Indians, now that we gave'em
tax-free Casinos'n'****.
Really kinda poetic--to now be able to eff Whitey 24/7/365--well, 364.

I'm *sure* their Casinos are closed on Thanksgiving.

We're off to the eldest son's in Weston, Taxachusetts, where he'll be
deep frying a couple of big turkeys in his chilly backyard to feed about
15 family members - and I damn well better not forget to bring over my
spare barbeque propane tank 'cause he called up this morning worrying
about running short.

I did my goody deed stuff last Sunday spending a couple of hours
schleping bags of groceries and frozen turkeys out of the church where
my Rotary Club holds it's annual Thanksgiving giveaway to the needy in town.

I've always found it sort of ironic that for the past few years I've
helped at that event my little grey 1990 Caddy Seville is the oldest car
in the church parking lot. Most of the time I'm loading bags into the
shiny recently new cars of the needy.

I came to peace with that when I realized that I was probably the "ant"
and they were a bunch of "grasshoppers", who spent everything they made
(and then some) and had nothing to fall back on when the "winter" of a
job loss, divorce or illness decimated their family's income.

http://home.comcast.net/~jwisnia18/rotary/turkey.html

(I'm the guy in front wearing the white cap.)

I guess one of the many things I've got to be thankfull about today is
that I was born to "depression era" parents who admonished me to take a
more conservative path through life. Thanks to their teachings I've
always put away enough to be able to roll over the rough spots in life
without them wreaking major havoc on my family.

Happy Turkey Day all!

Jeff

Hey Jeff,

Hmmmm I always pictured you in my mind as being a bit taller. You
did say "depression era", and not "thalidomide era" didn't you?

Not to mention that profligacy is basically sinful--or at least philistinic
and stupid.

My idiot coworkers, esp. the new ones who, for the first time in their
miserable little lives, are getting a half-decent check, and the *first
thing* they do is *not only* buy the biggest goddamm SUV they can find
(usually an Escalade or Navigator), but ALSO pony up an extra $6 K for
big-assed rims&tires.
They think they have now died and gone to heaven. goodgawd....

Congrats on being in good shape Jeff. I agree 100% on the financial
conservatism issue, it is great to have a lot of money saved up to go

I love your statement above. I have heard it many times before. That is
why I drive a van. Already has the top, I can go in the back without going
outside, gets better gas mileage, costs less even without the cost of the
top. Nobody ever takes the top off of a pickup for the big stuff anyway. I
don't even need a pickup to prove I have titanium balls either.

The 1/8 alum for my cover is about 2 #/sq foot. For my truck (Nissan
Frontier, 6' bed), about 27 sq ft was needed, or about 54 lbs. Plus cross
bracing, approx. 1/2 x 1.5" x 1/8 channel down the bed rails (to retain the
plate), proly is still under 60#.
You'll likely need a 5x8 sheet, and I rec. doing it in 3 or 4 sections,
which you can also hinge together, and/or wihch will just slide off the
channel, and are "locked in" by the tailgate.
Long piano-type hinges from HD. ****ty, but what else is new.
Considerably cheaper *and* more versatile than other solutions. Pretty
secure, as well.

Caps, fwiu, are 1. not cheap and 2. not lite, at least 80 lbs and 3) not
super ergonometric, but if you have the space when they're off, proly OK.
And, poss. a good compromise, depending on your overall use. For me, altho
at times I would like a cap, a tarp will just have to do.

Now's all's I need is a Confederate Flag and shotgun rack--to compleement my
(polished) titanium balls.

Yep.

Pretty silly... At least my pickup makes $$ for me, which cannot be
said about those SUVs.

Congrats on being in good shape Jeff. I agree 100% on the financial
conservatism issue, it is great to have a lot of money saved up to go
over rough spots, and not to have too much debt. Makes one feel more
relaxed about life.

Default Happy Thanksgiving... yeah, I'll be in m'shop...

Oh yeah,

Note that you need only hand tools (drill, mebbe a sabre saw for rounding
some edges, 10-32 tap, file, etc.) for this project. Also I rec. stainless
flat heat cap screws. Buy black ox first, 'til you're sure of the lengths
you will be using. I will switch to SS when my black ox has completely
rusted out.
ALTHO,
Getting someone to shear the plate for you is *really* convenient, and
results in a much more prof'l-looking job. The aluminum house can likely
shear it, or saw-cut it so well it looks sheared.

Also, you may not want 3 equally sized pieces, esp. if you're going to hinge
all together. I suggest making the back piece (closest to the cab) a little
longer than the middle, and the middle a little longer than the piece
abutting the tailgate. Wish I had thought of this earlier....

Also, you might want to consider some nylon strips epoxied on both the plate
and the channel, for better slide-ability. Wish I'da thought of that, as
well.... But I can actually add this, w/o too much other modification.

Proly won't, tho....

The 1/8 alum for my cover is about 2 #/sq foot. For my truck (Nissan
Frontier, 6' bed), about 27 sq ft was needed, or about 54 lbs. Plus cross
bracing, approx. 1/2 x 1.5" x 1/8 channel down the bed rails (to retain
the plate), proly is still under 60#.

For me,
altho at times I would like a cap, a tarp will just have to do.

Now's all's I need is a Confederate Flag and shotgun rack--to compleement
my (polished) titanium balls.

That's nice. How much does it weigh? I am thinking of getting a truck
cap, that would give me much more space above the bed.

LOL! That is a *great* photo of Jeff the Midget. Now you know
why the ladies of Boston have garters on their aprons and mousetraps
stuck to the lower hems.

Let's see if Lil' Jeff protesteth with his squeaky little
voice.......

Oh all right, it's camera angle. Jeff is about 6', I think.

Epoxy bonds plastic products.

Two-part TRA-BOND 2170T is suitable for bonding nylon, PVC,
polyethylene, acrylic, lexan, polypropylene, kapton, and almost any
thermoplastic substrate. It is thixotropic to allow for more control
over flow. Epoxy can be used for automotive, medical, aerospace,
photonic, and assembly applications.

BB,
I suspect that your run of the mill epoxy might not bond
well to Nylons.
