Default Dake TB16 or SB16 Drill Press

Hello,

I am in the market for a drill press, possibly a bench top. I searched
the news groups and found a lot of opinions on the Delta and Jet low
end models but have seen nothing about the Dake TB16 or SB16 DPs.

If you have any experience or even just information regarding the Dake
brand drill press, please respond. For instance, how do these DPs
compare to the Jet and Delta models? From looking at the prices online,
they seem to be about twice as much.

Thanks,
Randall

Don't know about the Dake, but I have a 12" Ryobi benchtop from HD for
$150. Works great, even for hard use in both wood and metal. 1/2"
chuck, 15? speeds (well alot anyways). Smooth, reliable table
adjustment, belt tensioning easy and strong. Lots of torque, motor is
huge compared to the size of the machine. Good capacity, big plus is
that the head can be loosened from column and swung to the side to
accomodate pieces sitting on the table or the floor.

Also, if you can find one of the old (1970's?) benchtop machines made
by such companies as allied industrial, you will get a machine which is
basically a floor machine with a short column. We have one of these at
the shop and is is indestructible. It's a school shop and the dimwits
in there haven't even been able to break it.
