Default vise again....

This looks like the ticket, this time, Lar..... I just can't warrant
$500 for a vise that cost damened near what the whole Mill ran.... It
would be nice if I could put it to work to pay for itself, but I ain't
in the business!!

The specs look pretty good, too... What'cha' think??

Looks like you'd have to use clamps to hold it down. Bummer. You know, a
Kurt D-688 should cost you about $325 and it's machined very precisely
with keyways on the bottom and you can get hardened and ground keys which
once you install them you can just drop the vise onto your mill table and
it's trammed. You can retrofit any vise with this feature, but a real Kurt
vise is a joy. No, I can't tell you where to get one for that price, but
that's what I paid for mine.

You might want to consider buying a 4 inch vise and a clamp set. Six
inch vises seem like a good idea, but they are really heavy when you
need to take them off and clamp a part directly to the table. Note on
a kurt type vise you can remove the jaws and remount them to greatly
increase the size of the vise opening ( although the depth is greatly
reduced. ).
