Hi Jonathan, hope you are having a nice day

JW I had my Trane air handler stop working suddenly. Even if I turn the
JW thermostat to fan only, I just get a loud buzzing from one of the
JW switches inside the unit, the blower motor will not start. The fan
JW blades do spin freely.

JW Here is a picture, with an arrow pointing to the component that is
JW buzzing:

JW Here's a closer shot of the component:

JW Here is a shot from the side:

JW I can't see in there well enough to read the markings. Is the black
JW plastic piece a capacitor? There is a small copper cylinder to the
JW left of it that moves when power is applied. When I turn the power
JW on I can easily feel the vibration through the unit as this small
JW copper piece clicks forward. I'm trying to describe this the best
JW I can.

JW This is a Trane gas furnace, 23 years old. The model number is
JW BLU045E924B1. Thanks for any advice.

The device you are pointing to is a fan relay. Just looking at the
condition of those burners it is obvious you seriously need a cleaning.
you need to call a local company to clean this for you and replace that non
code gas line. burners

Noticing your furnace has two burners. It's rather low efficiency.

What are you saying here?

Seems obvious to me! Higher efficiency models have more burners!
(But you knew that already didn't you!)

That's what I thought I read, but I wanted to give him the benefit of the
doubt..... Oh well, we all have to learn sometime.

Not quite correct Greg. my 95+ has 2 burners. the number of burners depends
on the BTU rating not the efficiency.

Yup, I have seen them. There isn't a whole lot of rheem around here. it is
mostly trane and carrier. The one I have is a 60,000 btu. I do have a rheem
10 seer AC though I have been getting more into controls lately and have a
Trane programmable control module running the whole thing.

I believe Greg knows this, we were just commenting on Stormons post that
indicated this idea, which we all know is entirely incorrect. Better
combustion and recovery of the heat is the result of Higher efficiency, We
know this but Stormons post seems to indicate that its the number of
burners.

I suppose then that is why an 8 cylinder car gets worse mileage than a four
cylinder! :-)
