Default dishwasher - old - referbish? potscubber 600

Have a GE dishwasher that's 15 years old now.
Has worked great up until this last year. Things
don't seem to get cleaned as well. I think it's
just a worn out pump - and the subsequent weaker
jet spray. It this a good assumption? Are motors
commonly replaced in older units. Don't seem to hear
the 'ssssssssssssss' of olden days. :-) Thanks

Could be a few things. Worn pump, spray arms getting clogged, filter
clogged.

At 15 years, it is probably more beneficial and cost effective to replace.
The cheapest of new models will out clean what you have now. Once you
replace that stuff, the racks may deteriorate, the soap dispenser may go
next month. It is a crap shoot.

If you price out some of the parts you'll agree.

So ... I see GE dishwashers go from 250 to over $1000.
What the model comparable to a potscrubber 600?

Beats me, but maybe someone else would know. I have a KitchenAid myself.

Generally, the best value is found in the middle priced models. They have
good features that may be lacking on the lower priced, but will not have the
extra features that you may never use anyway on the higher priced models.
The new models are generally quieter than old ones, but the higher priced
are even more quiet. If you want the stainless steel interior, figure on
the $800 or so models.

If much of anything has gone bad in a 16 yr old dishwasher, it's not
cost effective to repair it, as it's at the end of it's life. Before
you give up on it, I'd check and make sure water is getting pumped out.
I recently had a problem with mine, where dishes suddenly weren't
gettin cleaned well. Turned out to be a partial block in the drain
line, so only part of the water was getting pumped out each cycle.

So, I went from figuring I was gonna spend $400 on a new dishwasher, to
thinking I was home free. Then I found a corroded out brass drain pipe
under the sink. While fixing that, I noticed the disposal was a little
loose in the sink. Being 16 yrs old, the release nut wouldn't budge
and I wound up breaking that, so now it's time for a new disposal.
Then, I figured now that I've gone this far, I've never been crazy
about the sink, so now's a good time to replace it. After a week in
sink hell, I finally found the right Kohler cast iron one that I really
like and it cost $400. So, the whole thing is now costing me $600+. I
guess I would have been better if I had needed a new dishwasher! Then,
after getting the sink special order from HD, I lug the 100lb behemoth
home, put it in the counter and then notice it has a spider web
cracking in one upper basin corner. Back it goes.....

You got away cheap. To paper the kitchen walls ended up costing $4000 and
three weeks of evenings and weekends to finish things. You soon learn not
to even change the cover on a light switch unless you have the time and
money to renovate three rooms bordering it.

Sounds like you're married and the reason I got off cheap is I'm not!
