When I was in college I bought some Bic pens -- I think they only had the very simplest ones (clear plastic with a separate blue cap) then -- and it stopped working after a couple days. Their slogan was "Writes first time, every time". I took it back to the bookstore and was told, "Well it wrote the first time, didn't it?" Every pen worked the first time, every first time.
