Default Home Depot does not take back microwave ovens.

Home Depot does not take back microwave ovens even if it's only been a few days since it was purchased and it's still in the original box.

That's a new one. I've seen people taking back generators after a
hurricane and Xmas trees.

According to HD's returns policy, you have 48 hours to return "major"
appliances, like "some microwaves". Which "some" they don't say here.

https://www.homedepot.com/c/Return_Policy#exceptions

"DEFECTIVE OR DAMAGED MAJOR APPLIANCES €“ Before a customer accepts
delivery, major appliance products (including refrigerators, washers,
dryers, ranges, dishwashers, and *some microwaves*) should be inspected
for defects or damage, and if any exists, customer should refuse
delivery. Once delivery is accepted by a customer, product may be
returned if defects and/or damage is identified and reported to The Home
Depot within 48 hours of delivery day by calling (800) 455-3869. "
