I'd guess alcohol was involved. Maybe not flat out drunk, but some
degree of impairment to try that stunt.


And the stupidity of keeping a live round in the chamber of a .40
Glock, an accident prone and inherently unsafe weapon.

Regardless of "popularity", the Glock's short trigger pull and lack of
external safety has resulted in numerous "accidental deaths" and more
than 120 accidental discharges in the Washington Metropolitan Police
Department alone from 1988 to 1998.

Firearms safety should not rely on the infallibility of human beings.
Humans are imperfect and don't always follow procedures, this is even a
bigger problem with civilian ownership of Glocks.

Sidearms with a longer pull, double action trigger, are just as easy to
fire deliberately but much harder to fire accidently. Weapons such as
the Sig Sauer P226 are far superior to the Glock's used by so many LEO.
