They are a branch of the Anabaptists. They live a communal life style
and are pacifists. Around here, Hutterite turkeys are in high demand for
Thanksgiving although they do sell other produce during the year. They
are big on hogs, milk, and eggs. They have some of the best kraut I've
ever tasted. It's the real deal and a pound is a pound of kraut, not
half a pound of juice. They're not like the Amish and adapt any useful
technology for the most part. That ****es some farmers off since they
are very competitive.

I hear brined (fermented) kraut and pickles are a treat. Can't
find them out here without coriander (wife is frighteningly
allergic to coriander).

They reported to Ft. Lewis but would not fill out and sign a form
'Statement of Soldier' because they were not soldiers nor would they
wear a uniform. They made it to the guardhouse in less than a day and
then on to Alcatraz. It didn't help that they spoke German.

You kept your head down in WWI. Montana, to its shame, passed a Sedition
Act which was later adopted by He Kept Us out Of War Wilson's Congress.

persons who shall utter, print, write or publish any disloyal, profane,
violent, scurrilous, contemptuous, slurring or abusive language about
the form of government of the United States, or the constitution of the

It was about as good as John Adams Sedition Act; criticize the
government or any of the assholes running it and you were culpable.

There was all the foolishness about liberty cabbage, hot dogs, and
salisbury steak. I grew up in what had been New Netherland and between
the dutch roots and the many German settlers, a lot of place names were
German and there was an attempt to rename them that didn't take. WWII
was similar; the family German Shepherd became a 'Police Dog' to show
his patriotism.

The US should have stayed out of WWI and acted like the neutral nation
it claimed to be for a while. Britain may or may not have lost, but
they've pretty much lost after winning two wars anyway. No Versailles,
not WWII, and perhaps no USSR.
