You could move the stops on the jamb, adjust the mortises as required to make the thicker doors fit and reinstall the
stops, or pay a lot more to have non-standard doors made. The choice is yours.

If Linda means the old doors are "thinner" in thickness, then moving
the jambs and hinges might work to accommodate a thicker door.

But if she means "narrower" in width, then possibly she could have
1/8" inch trimmed off each side by someone with appropriate tools, etc.

You haven't provided enough information. In fact, you haven't even asked
a question.

What kind of doors? 6 panel pine? Slabs? Something else?

Are you replacing doors and jambs or just the doors? If you plan to get
pre-hung doors (which includes the jambs) you may find that your rough
opening is wide enough for "stock" doors. They may have shimmed the rough
opening so the current doors fit.

You may find it cheaper to get pre-hung doors and deal with the rough
opening than getting custom doors made.

On the other hand, we don't know where you looked for doors and what
you are considering "stock". There are other places to buy doors than
the big box stores. Have you considered looking at places that sell
architectural salvage? They usually have hundreds of doors in all
all kinds of sizes.

Its like counting feet. If you get an odd number, add 1 and divide by
2. It tells you how many feet you have. Or maybe not if one foot is
missing.

Um, ItsJoanNotJoann, Linda asked a legitimate home improvement question. It's the homeownershub.com site that sent her post to Usenet. I'm guessing that she has no idea what Usenet is. ヽ(γƒ…)γƒŽ

Linda didn't quite ask a formal question the gist of her problem
surfaced. There is this Chinese quote:
€œHe who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; he who does not ask
a question remains a fool forever€.

Ahh, my light bulb just came on. I immediately envisioned a "thinner" door rather than a "narrower" door.

You are usually better off trimming the hinge side than the knob side
if the door is already drilled, It is a whole lot easier morticing
for hinges than it is moving the door knob hole over so the lock set
fits. If it is not drilled, then go ahead and split the difference
from each side then drill.

Back at the house I have solid wood frame panel doors that have a one and three eights inch thick frame with three 1/4" plywood panels. I know this since we looked into replacing one with a broken panel because of a housemate's crazy girlfriend going nuts and trying to break down the door. Crazy people break things. I could have sworn she turned green during her episodes. Hulkette Smash! ”Œ( ΰ²*_ΰ²*)”˜

In addition, if things haven't changed, the OP will not see any negative comments about
herself or the HOH site.

Back when the Stormin Mormon was still with us, he used denigrate every HOH post that
found its way into a.h.r. I did some checking over at HOH and found that only "legitimate"
responses were in the thread.

Since it's a moderated forum, they filtered out all of the SM's negative comments. He was
disappointed.

Like, what is the model number. Can you post a link?

No, she really didn't ask a legitimate question. She made a
statement and wanted people here to decipher what she was
asking/saying.

As far as that stupid HomeOwners site it's just like another
site that another group contended with a couple of years ago
known as Food Banter. They copied and mirrored questions asked
on the cooking group. Everything there on F.B.was nothing but
a copy of that group. People would post a greeting and were
never to be heard of again just like HomeMoaners.

Many people don't know how to frame(no pun) a question about carpentry or other home improvement problems they are having. I don't have a problem with them as long as they're polite because I've dealt with the construction and technically challenged crowd for so many years. The OP got on The Internet looking for help and I don't blame her because the post wound up here in this newsgroup. The Home Owners Hub is less offensive than the crop of nasty trolls flooding the newsgroup so I'm not bothered by posts from HOH because at least the posts are on topic. If anyone is to blame, it's whoever runs HOH because I don't think the dates from 10 year old or any original posts are being displayed and the people going to HOH haven't a clue that the OP they're responding to could be long dead and buried. ヽ(γƒ…)γƒŽ

ヽ(γƒ…)γƒŽ

I'll bet that if that post not originated in HOH, IJNJ would not responded in the same manner.
She might have even offered advice or tried to garner some more info.
