Melted Spatula on Dishwasher Element
Yep.
I did it. Heard it drop and didn't think too much about it until that smell started coming out... Does anyone know of an effective way to remove the remnants of a melted spatula from a dishwasher heating element? No amount of scrubbing seems to help. thanks for your help! JohnH |

Does anyone know of an effective way to remove the remnants of a melted spatula from a dishwasher heating element? No amount of scrubbing seems to help. Get a single edge blade or a "utility" knife and start scraping. Keep the plane of the blade almost parallel to the surface. The goal is to remove the high stuff. The outer ;layer is a high temperature alloy with an oxide layer that protects it. If you have an electric stove you know the coating is tough but why press your luck? You can get most of the rubber off doing this. Finish the job by running the "HEATED DRY" portion of the cycle. This will burn off the little that remains (with luck). If you are lazy, just run the "HEATED DRY" cycle a few times until it stops smoking! thanks for your help! JohnH |

JohnH Hi, You -might- try warming up the plastic a bit with an hair dryer to see if softening it up a bit might help to remove it....might need to replace that element ( fairly easy ) if you cannot clean it up. jeff.
