Oddly enough I just ran into a college buddy a few days ago...

he got laid off but does not want to take Social Security, he wants to
keep going. (He's an engineer)

What kind of engineer?

There is only one kind of engineer.
Pardon me, boy
Is that the Chattanooga choo choo?
Track twenty-nine
Boy, you can gimme a shine
I can afford
To board a Chattanooga choo choo
I've got my fare
And just a trifle to spare

I need two new knees myself, I doubt I'll try to get them at Home
Depot. Two of the roommates I've had here at the center have knee
replacements and one of them said that his orthopedist told him that
he won't be able to bend his knee past 90 degrees.

Can't bend more than 90 degrees!!! I would look for a new doctor, or a
new brand of implants. Find out the brand he want to use and check it
out on the internet, the information is out there. My wife has bad
knees, as well as myself. The doctor who examined her knees suggested an
Oxford partial implant. I checked it all out on the internet and it
looked to be a good option, but her health is not so good and she
doesn't heel very quickly so she is reluctant to have it done as it will
cause a lot of pain and lay her up for quite a while before she heals
enough to be able to walk again.

Nope that's not what the problem is...

They *did* bend way more than 90 degrees problem is not the knee

as I mentioned before it's scar tissue on the ACL

I can probably get it fixed but my knees are so good and I'm doing so
much work I just don't have time to go back to the doctor

That's not a "kind" (discipline) of Engineer (e.g. mechanical,
electrical, etc). That a certification/license (Professional
Engineer) issued by a state.

Web based forums are like subscribing to 10 different newspapers
and having to visit 10 different news stands to pickup each one.
Email list-server groups and USENET are like having all of those
newspapers delivered to your door every morning.
