AC Freon top-off service

It is possible to use the 1 pound cans of r12 freon to top of an old home ac unit that is a couple of pounds low on refrigerant? Please don't go into the legality purchasing of freon...... just assume there is plenty of 1 pound cans available and a 4 ton ac unit needs a few pounds to top it off...... Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Propane is a direct replacement for R-22, sometimes packaged as R-22a. Most refrigeration units coming from other parts of the world have been using hydrocarbon gasses for years. |

In the time period since Dec 28, 2000, the original poster moved to Alaska, and has been asking about field dressing caribou after a successful hunt. He had to move to Alaska. His refrigerator was not working and he had to keep the meat cold somehow. He can just keep it in the shed there. |

DO NOT top up with R12 - and don't add propane to the current refrigerant either. It makes it impossible to legally recycle the refrigerant when an AC tech has to service or remove your system. (either way). If you are going to use an alternative refrigerant i the system usre R407C - but it should NOT be used as a top-up. Have the R22 in your system reclamed then fill with R407C. |
