Default Is this door adjustable?

Electric smoker:

The top left of the door has a gap of 1/4" between the gasket, so
smoke escapes.

The company is sending a new door (warranty). The gasket is
integrated in the door. It cannot be replaced independently.

It appears to be an alignment problem. The door is not bent and the
gasket is not damaged.

Can it be adjusted for a better vertical alignment?

You can try loosening those screws and seeing if you can then adjust the
door in/out or up/down.

It used to be that things like that were adjustable. Lately they make
things cheap and you can't do that.

I modify things like that so they work properly. Make my own bracket or
drill my own holes - whatever. I buy these things lately and they don't
work properly out of the box. Glad I know how to fix things!

Note if you do not have the tools to make your own bracket, a machine
shop may be able to do that for you. Tell them the problem and say you
want to be able to adjust it.

Wait until you get your new door first of course!

....

Doesn't appear from the pictures to be misaligned particularly--the gap
along the right hand side is uniform from top to bottom so it's not askew.

It would appear more likely the in/out alignment is off so the gasket
isn't compressed. That would require shortening the hinge length.

I'd wait until had the new door before worrying--if there's a
manufacturing defect in the first that the replacement solves, then no
problemo. If the new doesn't fix the problem then use winding stick
method to see if the face of the opening is, indeed, coplanar.

I don't know for sure. But, I'd want to pull the two small phillips screws,
upper left, take that cover off. See what's under there.

Take two more pics:
1) face-on to the door,
2) face-on to the left side.

No angles or rotation, but as dead-straight as you can get.

Also, as Stormin' Mormon pointed out, there are covers that you can easily
remove. Take those off, then take another pic exactly like your first one..

Thanks for all replies.

Side where it leaks:

You cannot see the gasket in this one. There is smoke stains at the
top of the door adjacent the metal plate. I noticed smaller gasket
openings along the door (not near as wide).

Front: Above the door is the digital electronic controls

When the new door arrives it should have the instructions to mount it.
I just don't to pull it apart until then.

You can't? Then what's the roundy strip between the door and the smoker
body? To my defective eyes, that looks like a gasket.

When I measure with my tape on screen with your pictures, that door seems
mounted perfectly parallel with the body of the smoker. Have you checked
that distance with your tape?

I have a suspicion that the entire hinge-area is too far away from the
smoker, and the staining is happening at the top only because smoke rises.

Open the door with your right hand. With your left hand, insert a piece of
paper at the top of the door, between the door-gasket and the smoker, where
the staining is. Hold on to the paper.

Close the door with your right hand. The paper should end up trapped
between the door and body. Now slide that paper downwards. Is it really
loose until it hits a certain spot, or is it really loose all the way down?

Doesn't tell me much, unfortunately, except that the door seems straight
left-to-right as well.

Should have said you can't see the gasket in that photo very well, at
first glance. You can when the photo is zoomed. There is about a
3/16" gap at the top.

The gap is obvious at the top. About 3/16". When I measure the door
on the left side it is 1/4" wider than when checked on the right side
of the unit. The door is to far away from the unit to close the gap
on the gasket.

Sigh. I'll wait for the new door and figure it out. I was hoping I
could loosen the screws and move the door closer. The company would
not advise me about this, but said they would send a new door.

The door arrived from the company - no instructions included.

The two screws at the top is not an actual hinge, but a cover plate.
When removed to install the new door there are 4 screws to adjust the
door hinge. The company could have said this when I called. They just
sent a new door.

Made the adjustment on the old door. Now I have an extra door. Tested
the unit for leaks with wood chips. No leaks.

A shame they do this instead of giving instructions in the
troubleshooting guide.

Oh well...
