Has anybody seen a Jackshaft Garage Door Opener in action? No motor, chain or bar on ceiling. It mounts on the wall and connects directly to the torsion bar. Interesting. http://www.garagedoor-remotes.com/liftmaster-3800.asp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUGOOA7EvZc I think I did see one of those demonstrated by our local door company, but we did not get one. For many years we had a Wayne-Dalton iDrive that operated on the torsion bar, but the motor failed after WD had been taken over and was no longer making the iDrive. We replaced it by a Sommer Synoris -- very quiet but rather slow. Perce |

Might be a problem in a stand-alone garage that doesn't have a conventional 'person' door. |

Might be adaptable to the Liftmaster but not included with it, at least according to the youtube video cited above. How would that be adaptable to the Liftmaster torsion bar opener? That standard release unhooks the carriage from the chain so that the carriage can slide along the bar. With the Liftmaster model in question there is no carriage, no chain and no bar, therefore no adaptability. Besides, the Liftmaster already has a emergency release inside the garage. The issue was how to open the door from the outside during a power failure. |

Probably a lot cheaper option than battery backup. |
