Default Jackshaft Garage Door Opener - Has Anybody Seen One In Action?

No motor, chain or bar on ceiling. It mounts on the wall and connects
directly to the torsion bar.

Interesting.

I think I did see one of those demonstrated by our local door company,
but we did not get one. For many years we had a Wayne-Dalton iDrive that
operated on the torsion bar, but the motor failed after WD had been
taken over and was no longer making the iDrive.

We replaced it by a Sommer Synoris -- very quiet but rather slow.

I’m not sure if those residential grade torsion bars are stiff enough
to distribute the torsion evenly to both sides but it should work
great on commercial grade coiling doors.

Looks like a consumer version of an industrial powered door-opener,
complete with cables on either side..

I'd be wondering how long the bearings will last, in that tiny motor.

Seems to do everything except allow you into the garage if it fails;
there's a manual release but it seems like it only can be used if you
are inside the garage. Might be a problem in a stand-alone garage
that doesn't have a conventional 'person' door.

and how would that differ from a conventional opener in that respect?

Might be adaptable to the Liftmaster but not included with it, at least
according to the youtube video cited above.

How would that be adaptable to the Liftmaster torsion bar opener? That
standard release unhooks the carriage from the chain so that the
carriage can slide along the bar.

With the Liftmaster model in question there is no carriage, no chain
and no bar, therefore no adaptability.

Besides, the Liftmaster already has a emergency release inside the
garage. The issue was how to open the door from the outside during a
power failure.

There appears to be a battery backup option.

i've seen those, but never actually seen one installed. People can't
even keep track of vehicle keys, they'd sure as hell lose the key to this.

I've got one on my Genie garage door opener; very handy when power went
out for a day. Probably a lot cheaper option than battery backup.
