Anyone ever work on one of these?
This unit is a site built house and may be 20 years old. The switch that controls the light and fan has failed. Lou |

Lou have you tried calling the manufacturer? how about some local appliance parts stores? whats the switch like a 3 or 4 button one for high medium low and off? the most likely failure is a bad motor....... range hoods are pretty cheap might be just easier to replace it........... |

OK Q1 Unit may be over 20 years old. Is it worth fixing or should I just get a new hood? Exhausts outside. Lou |

I assume it's just some generic switch you can buy anywhere? Why not fix it? |

Does the hood perform as well as you'd like? If not, replace it. Can you put in just a new hood or will that be the trigger for a $30,000 kitchen renovation? |

BTW Can I assume the hood is on the same circuit as the stove or a different circuit. Since the light and fan do not work due to switch going bad there is no easy way to test. |

There is almost zero chance it's on the same circuit. The stove will be single-drop 240V circuit. The range hood will most likely be on a 120V circuit, likely shared with something else. |

The first thing you learn in manufacturing is, nobody makes anything. It's just assembling stuff that someone else made. With nine million stock switches to choose from, it's virtually inconceivable that the hood manufacturer designed his own switch. And on the off chance that you couldn't find an exact drop-in, you could certainly find one that was functionally equivalent. Might have to modify the mounting a tad. |
