So? Dump Cox. There is no requirement that the folks who provide the wire

Comcast has no market footprint in Nevada and looking at their package
prices, they cost the same as Cox.

Cox has a strangle hold in NV.

My old ISP faced the same problem as Cox, with few subscribers who used
usenet, but high equipment costs for carrying usenet. *They solved it by
giving us a low level subscription to one of the independent usenet
services, free, and allowing us to upgrade to a higher level at our own
cost if we needed more capacity. *Cox instead is just degrading their
service, but with no concurrent decrease in their rather high fees.
Greed knows no bounds.

I'll miss them. *The only thing delaying my departure is the prospect of
having to get a new email address, since after a few years, your email
address is spread all over and its a hassle having to go everywhere and
change it.

For a few dollars a year, you can register your own domain name and
have a permanent email address no matter how many times you switch
ISP's. It's very easy to set up.

Try godaddy.com

When you register a domain name with them, I'm pretty sure they give
you a few email account mailboxes free with the name. It's pretty easy
to set it up.- Hide quoted text -

Your personal info is divulged if you do this. Not good. And you're
paying for this disservice. Not good.

AND ???

So stop using your ISP to access newsgroups and do it
via Google Groups...

Jeeezz no! Just go to any of the other free newsgroup servers all over the
place. The 'net is about the worst way there is to view newsgroups.

Yeah, but with Comcast you can use Earthlink as your ISP and with Earthlink
you get Giganews free.

No no no no no no!

Worst of all possible worlds. (Unless, for some strange reason, you
simply *must* be able to access Usenet from other people's computers.)

Besides being a massive spam portal, Google has utterly ****ed up their
web interface to Usenet. Their search function is totally useless. Users
think that the "groups" are Google creations.

Absolutely! Though I use GG from work because NNTP access is blocked. I'm
even thinking about Go To My PC to access the Usenet via my home system. It's
that bad.

Merely the latest reason to despise Cox. If I could get DSL, I'd do so
for internet and go with satellite TV. Been hating Cox for a wide
variety of reasons for 20 years or so.

Wanna trade? I have DSL and satellite TV and they both suck. I was far
happier sending buckets of money to the crooks at Adelphia.

I like how they say they are ditching free access instead of saying that
they are removing part of the service that are paying for and not reducing
your bill.

Just switched to them after my longtime usenet server (news.individual.net)
started getting really flakey. So far I'm very happy with the service, and
it's free!

Where you been lately?

(You are late for hall monitor duties) I won't cover for you anymore!

All right then. I got distracted by my actual life there for a bit.

TeamViewer is very good, but has, for some, an important drawback: It's not
free for commercial use.

A better choice is Mikogo: (www.mikogo.com)
* Free for ANY use,
* Active and server users can interchange control,
* Up to eight viewers can connect simultaneously to facilitate training or
demonstration,
and, best of all,
* Requires that the remote site install NOTHING on their computer! They
simply access the Mikogo web site.

For our technical support, we ask our user to go to the Mikogo web site
(using Internet Explorer, Firefox, whatever) and enter the nine-digit code
we supply. PRESTO! We're in control of their computer. By entering a couple
of commands, the remote user can even control OUR computer.

I've been using individual.net for five or six years (started when they were
free) and have never hand any issues with them. In fact, their customer
service is superb.

I'll have to take a look at them. Not sure how they work though a few
firewalls at each end, but worth a look.
