Looking for El cheapo substitue for sheetrock/floating/texturing. will add needed insulation, of course, but any suggestions for *low cost* surfaces for the ceilings and walls? Preferably nothing flammable, please. rustic or even 'warehouse' look OK, I'm just an OF with limited funds. Even an 'artist loft' look would be OK. Need help in thinking outside the box for wall and ceiling surfaces. It's interior is framed for four bedrooms, two baths, etc. Inspirations are solicited and will be welcome. thanks. Sheesh. How do you get any lower cost than drywall? If you can't afford that, I'm surprised you could buy acreage in any habitable part of the planet. |

My thoughts EXACTLY....He will be one of those stories we hear or read about when it gets REAL cold about either carbon monoxide poisoning or burning the place down with some jerry rigged heater and flammable walls and ceilings...Cleans up the gene pool I guess...LOL... |

Good buys out there if you do your research. It's more than acreage, it has a good well and septic system, major bucks around here. And the issue is more than low cost. Looking for material I can handle as an OF with a bum back. The reason I posted here is that I know a lot of folks with a lot of experience read here and I might *just* pick some little jewels of *ideas*, K? |

Leeroy- How about a radiant barrier over the wall cavity insualtion (cross ways to the wall studs) Foil faced paper (like used in old tilt ups in SoCal years aog.....looks like the industry has moved on to nearly pure aluminum ~$150 / 1000 sq ft roll...........on ebay cheaper & free shippin but still about 13c per sq ft but the good news is it appears to be flame resistant and properly installed cold remain in place. Also would allow the use of faced insulation since it is a vapor retarder. cheers Bob |

Fixed the typos Leeroy- How about a radiant barrier over the wall cavity insulation (cross ways to the wall studs)? Kinda like super wallpaper with out the wall.... ![]() To improve punching resistance install stucco line wire and drive the nails / wire subflush of the stud surfaces....this will help reduce damage to the foil and allow subsequent drywall to lay flat agaisnt studs Either foil faced paper (like used in old tilt ups in SoCal years ago) or foil .....looks like the industry has moved on to nearly pure aluminum? ~$150 / 1000 sq ft roll...........on ebay cheaper & free shipping but still about 13c per sq ft But the good news is it appears to be flame resistant and properly installed could remain in place for when you finish the space. Would allow the use of *unfaced insulation since the foil is a vapor retarder. cheers Bob |
