Default Chimney sweep by burning log

Just purchased the Creosote Sweeping Log. You burn it like another log and
suppose to release minerals to loosen creosote in the chimney. Do those
things really work and how effective is it?

Does it burn? Sure, but you can save time by just tossing dollar bills into
the fire.

I seem remember a Consumer Magazine Report or something, some ten to
fifteen years ago, that said they are useless?

They might make some tiny difference. However, if your chimney is crusty
with creosote it needs to be cleaned. Do not use the "chimney fire"
technique, by the way!

Might do a little good ... but if it really did a good job of cleaning,
would there be any chimney sweeping companies left?
