Default New Log stove/old house chimney

There must be an easy way?? I have just pulled out a 50's tiled open
fireplace and am trying to fit a small log stove in it's place. The
chimney smells a bit but was working fine with the open fire, it is
about 12" diameter made of rough stones. I bought a spigot 5" diameter
onto a 10" plate I am really struggling to fit the plate into the rough
stone chimney.

It's too small to get a drill into and attach any fittings so I guess I
have to wedge it and mortar through the 5" pipe??

Can anyone please give me some pro-tips on how to fit the plate,
please. please!! I don't think I ever found any DIY job so darned
awkward.

Timbo, Cornwall.

Angle grinder!
Trim 10" plate to suit, mortar around inside of hole, press plate into
mortar, add a few OBO nails to retain while drying.
Allow to dry, finish with mortar to remaining gaps, fit pipe..............

fit a piece of master board and seal it to the opening first then you can
fit spigot plate to it.have just installed my own this way.Mortar is not
recommended for fire openings use fire cement or ceramix comes in a tube
