These guys are making outdoor timers that look and act almost
identical to the Intermatic series. They even copy Intermatic's
numbering system so they are direct replacements. Anybody ever heard
of Precision Multi Controls or used their products? Are they as well
made and reliable as Intermatic?

They look the same, but there seems to be an important difference.
When using switches for motor loads, one must go by the horsepower
rating for the switch.

Both the Precision Multi Contols timer and the Intermatic timer have
the same 40 amp Tungsten rating, however, they don't seem to have the
same horsepower rating. According to Intermatic's spec. sheet, their
T103 or T104 timers are clearly UL rated for up to a 28 amp FLA, 240
volt, 5HP motor.

According to PMC, the "same" PMC replacement timer for the Intermatic
timer is only rated for motors "2 HP at 120-277 volts." Since that is
the only statement that they give, one has to go with it, meaning that
the largest motor that can be used is a 2 HP, even a 240 volt one,
which has a 12 amp FLA.

If your new pump motor is 2 HP or less, you can use the PMC timer.

It may be that PMC just carelessly stated the spec., because, AFAIK,
the same Tungsten rating usually translates to the same horsepower
rating. However, unless they could show me something in writing, I
wouldn't use a motor larger than 2 HP with the PMC timer.

Thanks... It's a 1.5HP motor so I'm safe either way.
