No they dont. Thats not an OS, thats just the code in the electronic controls. You need to read up a bit. You need to take Bull****ting 101. OS needn't mean something like Windows or Linux or even DOS btw. No one ever said it did. There is however a difference between code in a computer and an OS. AND even if cars did have OSs, and they dont, Your info is out of date. that is not the reason car manufacturers make more money on the more expensive cars anyway. I never said it was. It's to reduce amnufacturing cost. Graham |

Nope, you wouldnt know what an OS was if it bit you on your lard arse. that is not the reason car manufacturers make more money on the more expensive cars anyway. I never said it was. I never said you did. It was that fool desperately cowering behing SMS that made that stupid pig ignorant claim. It's to reduce amnufacturing cost. Wrong, as always. |

"An operating system (OS) is a computer program that manages the hardware and software resources of a computer. And that doesnt happen with engine control systems in cars, most obviously with the software. Cars have more computers than just the ECU now. Still dont have an OS in the absolute vast bulk of them. That's not what the claim was. You said no cars have an OS. You're completely wrong. Graham |

That's not what the claim was. You said no cars have an OS. You're completely wrong. That's really the bottom line. Newer cars definitely do have computers that are running a RTOS, often more than one. It's very different than the older vehicles that had only an engine control unit that ran some micro-code. My relative that owns a repair shop just went to a Toyota class on electrical systems where they were teaching the mechanics about the networking system on the newer vehicles. The OS is more to tie the different micro-controllers together than anything else. Each micro-controller is for a specific function, I guess they want to keep things distributed for now. Makes sense, with micro-controllers costing under $1 for the simpler ones. |
