roller-chain lube
Been told here & elsewhere WD-40 is not appropriate for drive chain
(roller type) lube for Dr Mower. What do you recommend? Would a spray-on type silcone based lube be good? |

roller-chain lube
regular oil, wd40 is NOT a lubricant and gets sticky and causes long
term binds. |

Almost anything
Motor oil works but evaporates and needs more attention but is cheap and readily available. Lithium grease works well but can look messy, same with other greases Spray on silicone or "Bicycle chain" lubricant or various formulations wet or dry will also perform well and look less gloppy than grease. Almost anything can gum up with dust or sawdust so if you also use your garage as a workshop, inspect a little more often. WD-40 would actually work well to clean the chain before you apply the final lubricant (if you are so inclined). Overkill IMO "Frank Thompson" wrote in message oups.com... It seems even the advertisement people seem to think WD-40 is a good lubricant. It is an oil based product, but a poor lubricant. It would make a good cleaner for your application, but you need to follow up with a good lube. You may want to try a bicycle shop, they will likely offer you a water based cleaner (Like Simple Green) and a Teflon based lube. |

dont mix lubricants!
the end result can turn into rock, seriously mixing lithium with regular grease I have seen it happen. remove and clean chain and sprockets, dry well then apply whatever ew lubricant you want. oil is cheap effective, and readily available |

Look them up; lots of other companies too. Pop |

Most of the chain lubricants I've seen contain molybdenum. They are
generally in an aerosol spray can and they're black because of the molybdenum. Molybdenum is an excellent lubricant (similar to graphite) and sticks tenaciously to metallic surfaces. Even when the carrier oil has dissipated, the molybdenum will still be there to give lubrication. Go to a motorcycle shop and ask for a moly chain lube. Bike chain spray on treatment is the best. But soaking in 2cycle fuel
mixture does a nice job of cleaning and oiling. |
