overzealous when scraping off popcorn ceiling
Our son-in-law and daughter scraped the popcorn off our ceilings and one of
them (I won't say which one :-) got carried away and scraped too much, gouging the finish in some areas. From the other answers I've read about popcorn ceilings, it sounds like my best bet is to get some watered down drywall mud and put it on those areas with a sponge. Any other ideas? thanks! |

You probably need to skimcoat the entire ceiling. This is an art by itself, but the average handy person can learn it. There's a little about it he http://www.hometime.com/Howto/projec...all/drwl_7.htm Google will give other results. Skimcoat, sand, texture, prime, paint. We just did this in our living room after removing popcorn ceiling. Looks great. -Frank -- Here's some of my work: http://www.franksknives.com/ |

Most popcorn ceilings were 2 coated at best. Good drywall work
requires 3 coats. That missing coat is the whole reason for the popularity of popcorn - it could disguise the need for that 3rd coat. If you simply paint what is there, I suspect that you will see the joints enough that you will regret not having done the 3rd coat, this will be especially true if you try to leave it slick with no texture. In this process, you will more than take care of a few gouges that were probably inevitable. I would suggest some form of texture or hire some one to slick it out. ______________________________ Keep the whole world singing . . . . From now on, just put the lid on the popcorn pot. thanks! |
