Default Black mold around window

Charles Martin in Seattle wrote:
A window question for the kind folks he

I have aluminum picture windows that were installed around 1982.
Moisture builds up on them when it's cold out, and black mold appears
on the caulking on the bottom edge and lower sides, where moisture ends
up thanks to gravity.

I removed some caulk and replaced it, but it's moldy again. On the web
I've found ways to remove black mold, but is there a substance
that I could put on the caulk to slow the buildup? The house is well-sealed
and so moisture builds up easily inside.

Any other anti-black mold/moisture tips would be helpful. Thanks.

RTV silicone originally contained arsenic to inhibit mold/mildew, back
in the 60s. Some poor family used it to patch the interior of their
dishwasher, and family members died. So I assume they took it out.

Short of arsenic, like the guy said, keep chlorine bleach handy, like
10% dilution. The commercial mold/mildew products like X-15 (I think)
are basically the same stuff.

Are you sure that it is mold and not mildew? If it is mildew, mix 1 part
bleach with 3 parts water, and wash the caulk with it, preferably using a
sponge. That will take care of mildew.

Robert

I'm in FL and get mildew. I have found that Mean Green Mold and Mildew
Remover works better than bleach and water. You can find it at most
Dollar General stores.
