Default Which Carrier?

OK I'm posting here too in addition to alt.hvac. I'm trying to decide
between 2 Carrier Puron units - a 14 SEER YX with variable speed
handler and Thermidistat vs a 13 SEER (don't have model - I think YZ)
with fixed speed. The price difference after rebates is within $300 so
I'm thinking of the 14 Seer. I'm wondering if the VS handler is
reliable ? How about the Thermidistat, what does it do over and above a
standard programmable? Any opinions? Thanks.

What is the difference between two cars of the same make and model with
just interior changes?

VFD's on airhandlers can reduce the noise generated by the air handler. They
might remove a tad more humidity. I had one made by American Standard, I
got it for the humidity removal. It did do the job. When it broke, after 5
years it was WAY more expensive to replace.

Seer is a annual figure. More is not necessarily better.

The installer is the one that makes the equipment work to rated specs.

Personally I would not move to Puron just yet. Maybe in 5-10 years.

I think the YXA 13 SEER in combination with the variable Speed air handler
will give you about a 14.2 (don't have the chart in front of me). The
thermidistat will bring the system on to lower humidity. For example, let's
say you have it set for 75 degrees (cooling) and it's 73 in the room. the
unit is not going to come on, but if the thermistat senses too much
humidity, it will bring it on long enough to drop the humidity.
The main thing I like about the variable speed air handlers? They are quiet!
I actually leave mine running 24/7 to filter the air in the house. I have
had mine in for 7 years now and have not had a problem. Now, I have had some
of the motors go bad and 9 times out of ten it's just the module that goes
bad. A while back Carrier had some problems with them, but i think they have
corrected it. They give 5 years warranty on them. BUT, as SQLit says: The
motors ARE expensinve once they go out of warranty.

BTW, what rebates are you talking about? I know Carrier was doing that "Cool
Cash" rebate program, but that was over back in June.....

Go for it!

I am surprised. was just talking with the east Coast rep for Carrier
yesterday and he NAVER said anything about the new rebate program.

Of course, my cutomers will tell me....

Well I sure hope my contractor-dealer is not wrong, I'm counting on
that rebate. It's written on my proposal. Perhaps they don't want to
publicize it before its time. I knew there was going to be a rebate
because I was told that by another dealer one month ago, so when I
asked the one that I have chosen he assented. Maybe he would not have
brought it up otherwise. Are you a dealer?
