thnks f/the info. another local (fence contractor) suggested i just add
the concrete, said it would displace the water, then the water should drain off (water table?) then go back and finish it with more "mud". what do you think? |

Strength of Materials prof commented "Don't ever pour concrete as it
will be too weak, mix it so you place it instead". That's good advice, and I've done it many times. If
you're really concerned, put the concrete in in two steps, the first one with a little less water mixed. I ass-u-me you're making sure you get below the recommended freeze line depth, right? If not, whatever you do won't matter; it won't last anyway. you can buy quickcrete fast setting concrete that is made to be poured
in dry Product # 1004 Fast-Setting Concrete Mix A special blend of fast-setting cements, sand and gravel designed to set hard in approximately 20 to 40 minutes. Sets posts without mixing. Pour dry mix into hole and soak with water. Available in: 50 lb. bags - 64 per pallet wrote: standing water in post holes (3-4"), wondering if and how i can/should continue work. any suggestions? thanks. |

thanks to all. basically i found it was not 'taboo' to cement a post
with water present. i mixed it dry(er), poured it in (how else do you get it to the bottom of a 3 foot post hole?) and the water rose then seeped back out. i'll let all know if it was a boom or bust. again, i appreciate all the suggestions. mike wayne wrote: you can buy quickcrete fast setting concrete that is made to be poured in dry Product # 1004 Fast-Setting Concrete Mix A special blend of fast-setting cements, sand and gravel designed to set hard in approximately 20 to 40 minutes. If the water bothers you, place a heavy plastic trash bag into the hole first, and then carefully fill that with your concrete mix. -- SVL |
