question on termites
Hello,
A few days ago, we saw a swarm of winged insects near the edge of the door in the wooden part. Then later, they had carved small cracks in the wood. Is there any kind of recommended spray/chemical that would get rid of any possible termites living inside of it? Anything non-toxic would be great. Also, do you recommend putting termite baits outside the property to repel them? anything else we can do? And if we do end up calling termite companies, what is a reasonable price for the initial application? I emailed one and got a quote of $600 which seemed really high. Let me know if you have any ideas. We are newbies to this sort of problem. Thanks! |

Termites have to have moisture, they travel to the ground or have it from somewhere. Ground to wood contact is a sure way to get termites. You can treat that area yourself, but sometimes they travel then you need to treat all around the whole building, drilling into the ground, and even through pattios and driveways. I routinly treat the perimeter of the house every year with a squeeze 1 gallon container. Use about a 1/4. Then you have to determine the total damage, and see if anything needs replaced. greg |

We had to have our house (concrete block on concrete slab) treated about 10 years ago. The whole neighborhood had a problem. Anyway, we had it treated and then when the contract (5 yrs) was up, we had it treated again, just to be safe. That was two years ago...it cost about $600 for that and they used the same holes they had drilled during the first treatment so it wasn't as big a deal. This treatment is supposed to last up to 10 years ....you can also get the kind of treatment where you dig holes out, away from the house, and put in bait. Don't know how good it is. Nothing is as effective as the old stuff they used to use back in the 60s but it has been taken off the market. |

question on termites
This afternoon I got some spectracide (foam) spray that supposedly
kills on contact and sprayed that outside the door on the cracks. Not sure if this will help though. Is this RAID a preventive thing or something to spray on the cracks? Our house is a brick front and hardiplank on the sides. But there is some wood trim around the door, the garages ,etc. What about indoor use? we are seeing some small mud pipes inside of the house near the door,. Thank you On Apr 7, 10:51*am, (GregS) wrote: In article , lora wrote: Hello, A few days ago, we saw a swarm of winged insects near the edge of the door in the wooden part.
