Default Gas stove started sparking permanently

Hi,

I have this strange thing happening where my kitchen stove just
spontaneously starts the sparking (which is of course usually only
needed to light up
the gas flames). Even without touching the knobs the sparking just
starts. If I turn one of the knobs a little bit, the sparking stops;
but starts again after a minute or so.

Does anybody have an idea? I'd appreciate it very much.

Thanks,
Wilko

Gas leak? Burner valve not closing all the way? Temp sensor in the igniter
switch defective?

The good news is that all that sparking will prevent a buildup of gas if
there is a leak. The bad news is that it could fail permanently, and if
there IS a leak...

Call a repairman and get it fixed!

Fortunately my smart wife did the right move.

She just unplugged the stove and plugged it back in. After that
everything was fine again. (She basically followed the advice that I
gave her for the case where her Windows PC laptop behaves strangely). I
have no clue how to explain it, but as long as it works again. The day
before we got a new dishwasher installed. Maybe that has something to
do with it.
