I am just posting this message in case anyone is thinking of buying a
KingKoil "Emerald" series mattress ( it has a memory foam topping) I have had this mattress for slightly over a year and I have had to send it back twice for repairs because it 'sags' after a few hours of sleep and starts causing back pain,. I just spoke to the guy at the local king koil factory where this a mattress was sent for repairs and his suggestions was ' Maybe you have not bought as good a mattress as you think you did' I paid over $1000 for a queen set and I have already spent $200 to have movers take this mattress to the factory and bring it back ( this is how their warranty works) I am left with no other option now than to dump this mattress and buy a new one ( unless i decide to put up with the pain) thanks |

We are both very happy with it. |

Now that we got their information package, and their little sample of memory foam, my wife seems awfully interested in one, too (suddenly, we're "not sleeping as well as we should") ;-) Any downside to the Tempurpedic ... other than price? |

Haven't found one yet. However, since the foam is temperature-sensitive, it will not work well in an unheated room in a cold climate. I don't have the specifics, but when it gets cold (40F or so?), it gets hard as a rock and may take several hours to warm to "normal" consistency. However, we keep our room at 62 at night, and it's not a problem at that temp. FWIW, I travel a lot, and noticed that even previously "very comfortable" beds in the Hyatt or Marriott are not quite as good as home any more... |

I've always been concerned that the Tempurpedic would be a little too molded to my body for my liking; I overheat easily. I've been very happy with our Select Comfort (Sleep by Number) bed, which is adjustable and otherwise very flexible. We're using this right now on a sheet of plywood in a new-to-us headboard/footboard bed frame (the box springs wouldn't fit), and it seems fine. |

I have back problems too and I found it worked well to buy a cheap, stiff mattress, just a bit too stiff to sleep on by itself, then put on a regular foam rubber bed pad (the eggshell kind, but with the bumpy side DOWN), beneath a padded cover. Why pay loads of moolah for foam built into the mattress when you can put it on yourself for a few bucks. It's easier to take a stiff bed and soften it yourself, than vice versa. What is the inner spring like, is it soft too? A board between it and the mattress may help. |

Thanks for all the suggestions -
One thing that I have gathered from all these discussions is to use a board (or solid foundation ) rather than a box spring for better performance of most mattresses - and as someone suggested get cheaper versions and change them often |

Not really... Though cheap "memory foam" may sag as described, good, temperature- AND weight-sensitive "memory foam" supports without sagging. I also have chronic back problems from surgery over 20 years ago. Waterbeds are the absolute worst, and so far the Tempurpedic is the best I've felt -- much better than a simple "stiff" mattress. |

A piece of 1/4 or 3/8" plywood between the mattress and foundation also works as good as a solid platform. |
