Hi guys n gals.
Ive got an anoying problem with this power inverter that ive just bought and was wondering if any of you chaps might have a solution. -- Power inverter is a 12volt dc to 240 volt ac 1000 watt - 2000 watt max with low volt cut out detriot model. -- Also 300 watt - 500 watt no cut out detroit smaller model. Problem is unless I have the car engine running the thing keeps cutting out when I try and power a mini PC. And even then if I have lights, heater blower, the thing cuts out. Id like to bypass the low volt alarm/cutoff if possable. Anyone ever done this with a detroit inverter.? The most anoying thing is that I bought the larger one specialy to power a Carputer that ive made, because at the time i didnt think my existing 300watt detroit inverter was upto the job. But it was. I only tried it with the cigaret lighter output. Not direct to a battery which i did later when the larger model also failed from the lighter output. All It needed was a bigger feed cable. The smaller 300 watt model does not have the low volt cut out like its bigger brother. It works perfectly well even without the engine running, which is exactly what I wanted. Though I should image that it would burn out over time due to its limited output. The larger one fails realy easily which is dead anoying. It doesnt even turn off when it fails. It keeps it own fans going, but just kills the outputs which is totaly pointless. To reset the thing you have to turn it off and on again. Any info on this kind of thing is welcome. Thanks -- Regards Wombat Find more info at: http://www.wombatppc.dsl.pipex.com http://www.youtube.com/wombatppc |

Thanks How do you connect the high power one to the battery? If you use the cigarette lighter output, you may be getting too much of a voltage drop. My unit requires a direct connect to the battery if the wattage is above 150 watts. Below that, the cigarette lighter output is OK. My 2 cents worth. Al |

Al I have now taken a Very large cable from the battery via a dedicated fuse. The sort that is uded for audio amps. Its around the thinkness of a starter motor cable, so its beefy enough. The cigarette Lighter socket aint good enough for any of them. This New Cable is fine for both. Well it would be if the low volt breaker didnt keep tripping out. -- Regards Wombat Find more info at: http://www.wombatppc.dsl.pipex.com http://www.youtube.com/wombatppc |

With an accurate volt meter, at the inverter, at what voltage does the low voltage cutout kick in at? Same test, at the battery? |

With an accurate volt meter, at the inverter, at what voltage does the low voltage cutout kick in at? Same test, at the battery? Heeeheeee.....Haahaaa....... I have been telling people so many times, and still you are searching to find the clue. Listen all of you, ALL inverters out there are OVER-RATED. If they said 2000W then you need to divide it by 3 to get your true support power. Then figure out your total load power, if your load is exceeding this (X/3) then you need a bigger Inverter. See, I told you, do not call me liar or scammer. Just look at your own people lying to you so many times. You find it the hard way. Return the Inverter to the store now before your 30-days expiring. |

It would be good if you would follow standard practice and set what you use to post to Usenet to use a line length of ~72 characters. .. .. Standard automotive batteries are not intended to do what you are attempting. If you continue to do this, you will shorten the life of your starting battery and one day soon will find yourself stranded somewhere. If you want to power something from a battery in your car, get a "deep-cycle battery" (also called a "marine battery") and mount it in the trunk. You will also need to buy and install a gizmo to keep the 2nd battery charged. http://www.google.com/search?q=charg...ernator+device |

DON'T ASSUME.. and DON'T Scare people of something you have no clue of. A mini or standard PC Does not consume any more than 80W light bulb, A monitor may takes around 130W. The fact he needs the engine running that is to supply for the demand of his funky inverter. Jack. |

It has to be to start the V8. And its spanking new. The fault lies soley in the inverter cut off All Im asking (and its a simple question) does anyone know how to bypass the cut-off.? Once the the inital startup of the PC has done its bit, the thing runs fine even without the engine running. Until you add to the power drain. The the outputs of the inverter cut out. Bloody anoying, as the cheeper one keeps going strong. -- Regards Wombat Find more info at: http://www.wombatppc.dsl.pipex.com http://www.youtube.com/wombatppc |

My other two inverters are 350 watts, they can't handle anything above 200W. I live with them three. Yes you can bypass but it's not recommended, I increased the size of fuse on the Inverter a little bit. If you went overboard you could blow the MosFet in your Inverter. |

Well ive been messin about with it again today, and re-soldered all the joints. That didnt make any difference. Then I cut one wire inside, which killed the allarm noise, but that was all. It still cuts out on initial startups. I re-connected the thing after though, as I found it was used to discharge caps once the main power is cut off. Makes a crappy noise as it drains out. Also fitted a remote switch plug (Press Type Speaker Wire Clips) so that I can connect a switch up front in the car to turn it on or off. There didnt seem to be any obviouse way to bypass the cut off though. And i didnt want to mess it up by poking about to much. Guess ill just have to follow a set path on startup. 1. Start engine. 2. Power up inverter. 3. Power up computer. 4. Cut engine. Im not to bothered now ive had a good poke around inside and know its not broke. It was an expensive ebay item £55. And the smaller one cost me £2.50 off ebay. Shame I didnt try the smaller one with a direct battery connection first.!! So can`t grumble. :-) -- Regards Wombat Find more info at: http://www.wombatppc.dsl.pipex.com http://www.youtube.com/wombatppc |
