Default RCA PTK169 convergence question

I hope this is not off topic. I repaired leaking tubes on this set. I now
need to adjust convergence.
I am using the convergence menu built into the set.
My question is how wide and tall do I make the grid on screen?
By this I mean : on the left side of the pattern there is a 'V' shape at the
ends of the horizontal lines. How close to the edge do I put them? Same
for the 'hash mark' on the vertical lines. Do I put them right on the edge
of the screen or just off the viewing area?
I have never done this before and I dont have a manual. I'm using the
instructions on the label on the front of the tv.

I covered the red and blue lenses and adjusted the green first by itsself.
I want to make sure I'm doing it right before I do all 3 colors(it is not an
easy adjustment process).
I just got the green done but had to leave town for several days. Will get
back to it soon.
Thanks Roy

Your on the right track by covering the red and blue...etc

As far as the height and width , an inch or two of over scan is typical. We
use a Sencore pattern generator with the large circle pattern. Also....to
fine tune I use CNN ! The news crawl at the bottom is a good indicator for
proper height.

Unless someone really screwed with the adjustment pots , these adjustments
shouldn't be that far.

thanks. your right. It wasnt too far off. I dont have any kind of
generatior. I worked on this for a friend. I may have things a little too
tall and skinny but it looks ok. Definately better than all green like it
was... the coolant had shorted out the green crt board.
