The +/- buttons on a Toshiba CF19G32 television from 1998 will not
change its Setup screen's TV/CABLE mode to TV. It is stuck in STD CABLE. These buttons also do not work on that Setup menu's CH PROGRAM (channel programming) or ADD/ERASE. But these buttons do work on other menu screen's for other operations such as contrast, brightness, color, etc. so the buttons themselves are not defective. Also, on the Audio menu, the buttons will not change the STR/MONO item but they do change the BASS, TREBLE and BALANCE items. It may have always had this problem as I have been connecting its antenna through a VCR and then to the TV in which case the TV's CABLE mode has worked to receive both UHF and VHF. I've only now directly connected an antenna to the TV and discovered it will not show UHF channels due to the above problem. |

I've seen Toshiba TVs where the front panel menu buttons don't work for all funtions. Some settings could only be changed from the remote's menu buttons. Andy Cuffe -- Use this email address first |

The problem has turned out to be that the TV needs to have a signal
connected to its antenna input (and maybe TV selected instead of VIDEO as its input) when doing this Setup. I can understand why it would need a signal in order to activate the channel scan function, but why also to choose what mode to use ? The TV does not know what you want to do till you give it a source.
