Advice?
Hello All, It's time for a new TV receiver! I don't think a flat-panel is really worth the prices just for the light weight and ablilty to "hang it on a wall". I have decided on a 32" to 37" flat-face CRT wide-screen, high definition of course! Would you say this is wise starting point? What would be your makers/models of choice? What are your experiences concerning repair frequency for the various manufacturers? Thanx for your time, Carl |

Among people who work on them a lot, You will likely find the consensus to
be Sony, but not necessarily the XBR. Of course, there sill be some people who think that Sony is not what it used to be. I would take one of the newest sets over those from a decade ago in a second. Going from what I am seeing and experiencing, my preference is for the Sony.
You can get something in their HS series rather than an XBR. The XBR has a lot of options on it. As far as the picture quality and performance is concerned, there should not be any visible difference between the XBR, and the HS models. If you have the budget, they you should get the XBR for the added features. You should go out and compare the sets. If you walk in to any professional broadcast facility, most of broadcast equipment is Sony. They are the leader in the broadcast industry. Their TV receivers are designed based on their standards for the TV industry. This is probably why their products are a little more expensive. The Panasonic sets are also very good. Panasonic is also manufacturing broadcast TV equipment, but not on the same scale as Sony. You will have to shop around. The prices of the LCD type HDTV sets are dropping. In a year or two there will no longer be any CRT type TV's being produced. Many of the major manufactures are no longer producing CRT's. Once their stock is depleted, the runs will finish. There has been many publications about this subject. Below are a few references to the stopping of CRT manufacturing. http://broadcastengineering.com/news...sony_stop_crt/ http://www.theregister.co.uk/2001/07..._crt_monitors/ http://www.findarticles.com/p/articl...9/ai_110267090 -- Jerry G. ========================== "Carl Jenkins" wrote in message news:YFuXc.13047$A8.9894@edtnps89...
