Many drives have a tiny hole on the front panel into which you can insert the
end of an opened paperclip, or a small screwdriver, to manually eject the
tray.

If this doesn't work, open the computer and remove the drive.

Have you ever heard of a splintered CD?
A CD can break up while it is spinning in the drive.
Two times I have seen the result of this happening, not a pretty sight :-(

I would suggest removing the Cd-Rom drive from the computer and then break
the drive. Now you have a matching pair!

** Takes ridiculous RPMs and the disk shatters to pieces.

So not the case here.

In my world Dual or Quad speed drives are not capable of ridiculous
RPMs and these drives I'm talking about were quad speed.

Knowing that Mythbusters failed this one I still believe what I've seen.

I'd be more concerned that a CD went in with a minor crack, and the
rotational speed did impact on it. Not a mere 1X drive, but some of them
can go considerably faster.

I seem to recall the FAQ warns about CDs in faster speed, but I don't
recall details.
