http://www.statejournal.com/story.cf...&storyid=81028
Several agencies work together to search for the suspect. SPANISHBURG -- Authorities from three counties, a helicopter, K-9 unit and State Police combed Spanishburg woods, following a Mullens bank robbery. Mercer County Sheriff, Don Meadows, told 59 News that Edward Miller, 31, of Beckley was arrested at around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 7. According to Corporal James Long with the West Virginia State Police, he fled the First People's Bank of Mullens at 10:03 a.m., with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was first spotted on Route 16 heading towards Raleigh County, through Rhodell. Later, authorities report he had apparently wrecked his vehicle along Old Spanishburg Road in Spanishburg. Long was the first person on scene. "It was turned sideways on the road," explained Long, "and as I was traveling up onto Old Spanishburg Road, I observed a black male subject exit the driver's side door of that vehicle and run behind the car, up Spanishburg Road and hit the wood-line." More than seven agencies worked as a team to bring the suspect in. Spanishburg, Lashmeet-Matoaka and Pikeview High Schools were briefly on lock-down Monday afternoon as police searched for the robbery suspect. All students have been safely released to return home. The Sheriff's Department and the Mullens City Police Department are investigating. Miller is facing charges in Wyoming and Mercer County. A video arraignment was held in Mercer County, Tuesday, June 8. In Mercer County, Miller is facing two misdemeanor charges for battery on police officer, and fleeing on foot. Bond was set for $20,000. Miller remains in the Southern Regional Jail. |
