How do I run a 12V 3A monitor (made for a car) into a home AC outlet?
I've got a 7 inch external monitor I want to set up with my camera, it
is made for a car 12V. Now, what do I do to make it so I can run it from my home - AC? I don't want to take a chance trying it with an AC adapter before I figure this out. Any ideaS? |

Go out and buy a 12 Volt 3 Amp power supply. Most of the electronics
parts distributors sell these. -- Jerry G. wrote in message oups.com... I've got a 7 inch external monitor I want to set up with my camera, it is made for a car 12V. I recommend that you get a desktop power supply unit to power the display, such as the ones at MP Jones Associates: http://www.mpja.com/productview.asp?product=14702+PS and http://www.mpja.com/productview.asp?product=16168+PS Similar power supplies are available elsewhere, but these are priced right. -- Dave M MasonDG44 at comcast dot net (Just substitute the appropriate characters in the address) Never take a laxative and a sleeping pill at the same time!! |

I like the price of these - if I can run it right from the monitor to
an AC outlet, that would be ideal! So am I right in assuming if the monitor says 12V 3A - then one of these will work with it? DaveM wrote: wrote in message oups.com... Then you can use it when AC isn't available. That takes me back to my early Amateur Radio days, running my rig off an on-charge 12V car battery on a tray in case of acid spillage! I used to keep the window open in case of hydrogen build up. A car battery is not something I'd want in my house now, but it would certainly do the job the OP wanted. Dave |

You might have to cut the coaxial connector off the cable and wire directly into your display. Just make sure that you have the polarity correct. Measure the voltage on the wires with a voltmeter before you hook it up. Power supply (+) goes to display (+)!!! -- Dave M MasonDG44 at comcast dot net (Just substitute the appropriate characters in the address) Never take a laxative and a sleeping pill at the same time!! |
