Default How do I run a 12V 3A monitor (made for a car) into a home AC outlet?

I've got a 7 inch external monitor I want to set up with my camera, it
is made for a car 12V. Now, what do I do to make it so I can run it
from my home - AC? I don't want to take a chance trying it with an AC
adapter before I figure this out. Any ideaS?

Go out and buy a 12 Volt 3 Amp power supply. Most of the electronics
parts distributors sell these.

I recommend that you get a desktop power supply unit to power the display, such
as the ones at MP Jones Associates:

http://www.mpja.com/productview.asp?product=14702+PS
and
http://www.mpja.com/productview.asp?product=16168+PS

Similar power supplies are available elsewhere, but these are priced right.

I like the price of these - if I can run it right from the monitor to
an AC outlet, that would be ideal!
So am I right in assuming if the monitor says 12V 3A - then one of
these will work with it?

Yes, they'll work just fine.

But make sure that you get the polarity the right way round, of course ...

Yes, you should be able to use either of the units with your display. You might
have to cut the coaxial connector off the cable and wire directly into your
display.
Just make sure that you have the polarity correct. Measure the voltage on the
wires with a voltmeter before you hook it up. Power supply (+) goes to display
(+)!!!
