I finally determined the LCD display fault was being caused by movement
of the LCD panel, but I could not get any sort of correlation between the movement of the panel and the display fault. I decided that somehow, pressure was being applied inside the LCD panel to the membrane switch for volume. I removed the 4 screws and took off the LCD panel outer cover. I blew out the circuits and rearranged the ribbon cables slightly. I really couldn't see any fault, but after reassembly, the display fault has disappeared, and the camera functions normally.
