Artisan saw noise
I have a Powermatic Mod 63 Artisan saw. It makes an incredible noise when
the blade protrudes less than about half an inch above the table. Any higher and no noise. If I loosen the tension on the depth adjusting wheel the noise ceases. Does anyone have any ideas about this one. I have tried pushing everything under the table (trunions, arbor, swing castings etc.) with the saw running and nothing changes the pitch of the noise. Taking tension off the belt by lifting the motor a little reduces the noise somewhat. I am suspicious that the bearings may be bad but cannnot see why blade exposure would influence the noise. Any thoughts will be appreciated. Dave |

Often they loosen and the wobble of the pulley will produce a loud fast clicking/knocking noise. Second try flipping the belt around so that it spins backwards if it is a normal v-belt. Belts can make a lot of noise also and reversing the spin will change the noise. If the noise changes, a new belt may fix the problem. |

Leon,
Thanks for replying. After I posted the problem, I bit the bullet and removed the arbor. One bearing is noticibely noisy when I turn the shaft by hand. I guess the load on the bearing changed enough as the blade was raised to make the bearing complain more. Dave "Leon" wrote in message om... "Dave W" wrote in message ...
