Default Why doesn't the army help put out forest fires?

They use loggers first. Already have the gear. Water helps but disperses very rapidly and evaporates a great deal on the way down. Used to use a borax type chemical as a suppressant.

A lot of fire fighting is fighting little, bitty fires. Cat digs a break. Then people guard the break. Pulaski's and **** cans. Chainsaws with four, five and six foot bars.

You can drop water or suppressant and put out the fires accessible from the air but it takes a huge amount of water to put out fires under a log, under ground, etc.

Fighting fire is hard work, at least in the mountains. Oregon tried Wineo's from the streets of Portland. They started collapsing at the edge of the parking lot. Some made it a few hundred yards.

Think I'll just skip out on the side arguments.
