Mike Wright, from Dayton-Wright loudspeaker fame, designed an electrostatic loudspeaker filled with SF6. It played amazing bass and LOUD...quite an achievement for an electrostatic. Too bad the amplifier loads were screwy to the point of destroying many amplifiers. I have used SF6 in small air-suspension speaker designs with some success. The big giggle around the shop in those days, was to fill a balloon and watch it drop to the floor like a stone. |
