I've found with a fairly basic config on Nfilter that the signal-to-noise
ratio is quite a bit higher. For what gets past that that I don't want to
read, I employ an advanced technique that I like to call "not reading it".
Let me explain. When I see a thread with a title that disparagingly refers
to Jews and photography, I don't read it. I actually move my eyes to the
next thread and decide if I want to read that one, and so on. This is
Usenet, and an unmoderated group, so you've pretty much got to expect a
certain amount of crap.

It always amazes me how many people exist with sad lives and crave
attention especially the spineless who hide behind keyboards. Yes I'm
reffering to the Spammers here. I agree they should get a life or end
their miserable life and stop bothering us. Don't let them win by
quitting. Just ignore them altogether and don't answer or post
anything about them. In time they will move on because of the lack of
attention they crave.
Just tune them out and eventually when they will crave attention
somewhere else.

scroll on past the stuff you don't like. I save my killfile for the
"home-grown" idiots who live right here on the wRECk. If none of this works

the reaction of others, more or less like trolls.

In suicide, as other things, it's the quiet ones you've gotta watch. They
make better plans and are more likely to succeed.

Having spent the better part of 20 years as a counsellor on a telephone
hot line, quiet/loud is less important than the plan. If you come
across someone talking about suicide, ask about their plan. If it's
"I'll go jump off a bridge" or "I'll lay down on the train track
sometime", it's not an immediate problem. On the other hand "I bought a
gun today" or "I've been saving up my pain killers", you have an
emergency on your hands. In either case, help is needed.
